”I haven’t really been doing a lot of battles like that? My pokémon here are nowhere near battle-ready, you know?” Vic has always been strict with himself and with his pokémon about that sort of thing; months upon months always being spent training until feeling like his pokémon were ready to challenge gyms. At least that was the way things used to be. We have his dad to thank for teaching him to be like this.

”I’ve just been having a good time. I played some dodgeball earlier!” He laughs, setting aside talk about battling.

[break][break] he nods in understanding. "yeah, i can see that." even as a kid, vic had always been the hard-working type. the type who simply thought too much. more than once, flynn had wanted to knock him on the head, and tell him to stop worrying.

[break][break] "dodgeball sounds fun," he says with a grin, tipping his head back to drink. the charjacola sizzles in his stomach and flynn is left wondering if maybe there's something suspicious in the drink. "met anyone fancy yet? i think i met one of those - uh - singers earlier. her name's Melody Miro i think?"

”Ha! It was, though it’s kind of crazy when you play with pokémon in the teams. I think in one of my matches I just barely avoided a Hyper Beam.” He laughs, but is that even funny? Maybe not to everyone, but Vic has always had a penchant for doing dangerous things, along with an almost non-existent sense of self-preservation. Overall, a fun combination!

”Oh. I think I’ve heard of her! That’s really cool! Was she nice?”

He considers Flynn’s question, and he looks down at the can in his hand. ”I… Uhh… I think I met the guy who owns Charja-cola? He gave me a signed case of it after my Dragonite beat up Tapu Bulu while it was sleeping. He was a pretty cool guy!” He says this casually. He probably shouldn’t be saying this casually.

Vic’s experiences in this tournament have been… interesting, for lack of a better word.

”Hey! No! Come on!” When Flynn ruffles his hair, he can’t help but laugh. A joyful and melodic sound that somehow so closely resembles the way he used to laugh back when he was a teenager. There’s something different about it though, there’s something missing, even if it’s hard to tell exactly what. Maybe it’s just the result of the damage caused by time.

”Ha. Of course she was!” Vic grins, and for a mere second, it’s as if they’re teenagers once more, but that second passes all too soon.

He smiles. He smiles with that smile that says everything is fine; the one that has been so well practiced overtime. The one that often hides so much.

It’s nice to hear Flynn laugh. Vic has missed it... He doesn’t laugh nearly as often anymore.

It’s also nice to know he can still make him laugh even if he’s not trying to.

His grin is honest and bright, but there’s something playful in it too. ”Oh. We’re battling!”

These days it’s not often that Vic is eager to battle. He has even avoided it as much as possible, and he has promised himself not to fall in the same old habits that come when he starts to focus too much on battles, gyms, and badges.

But, this is Flynn, and for Flynn he can set all that aside. If only for the sake of having fun together.
